Ilona Kindt Cello

Ilona Kindt comes from a family of music teachers where making music together was a natural part of everyday life. In her childhood she spent a lot of time in various youth orchestras, but even then she discovered her passion for chamber music and was always there when the chamber music sheet music was still being fetched from the cupboard late at night. She studied with Zara Nelsova and Harvey Shapiro in the USA and continued her studies at the Menuhin Academy in Gstaad. Her chamber music development was also strongly influenced by her work with Walter Levin and Ferenc Rados. In 2004, she completed her concert exam in Hamburg with distinction.

She has performed with Yehudi Menuhin, Alberto Lysy, Joseph Silverstein and Jean-Jacques Kantorow and has appeared as a chamber musician at the Menuhin Festival Gstaad, the Salzburg Festival, the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival, Lincoln Center NY, Tonhalle Zurich, Musikhalle Hamburg and Hessischer Rundfunk Frankfurt. For Yehudi Menuhin´s organisation “Live Music Now” she played numerous outreach concerts in Frankfurt, Hamburg and London. As a soloist, she has given concerts with the Camerata Lysy Gstaad and the Hamburg Sinfoniker, among others.

Ilona Kindt is a winner of the Elise Meyer Competition and the Ritter Prize and has taken part in master classes with Bernhard Greenhouse, Steven Isserlis and William Pleeth. She plays a cello by Thomas Meuwissen from Brussels.
