French Piano Trios

The sisters Lili and Nadia Boulanger impressed us so deeply that we named ourselves after them. Lili´s two compositions for piano trio had not yet been published, and so it was a great concern of ours to make them known.

Gabriel Fauré had a major influence on the sisters´ artistic development. What fascinates us about his trio is the beauty in its reduction and its peculiarly delicate tonal language. Gabriel Fauré led us to Camille Saint-Saëns and his impressive and unusual second piano trio. Because of the teacher-pupil relationship between the three composers, we were attracted to relate their works to each other here. It is exciting to see how much the works seem to diverge and how much the composers enriched and fertilised each other in their work.
